Chairman PMcN thanked the following:
  • Mark Reid & Maura Murphy and the RSS staff - Joe Armstrong, PJ Walsh, Paddy Ruane & Tom Bourke for their hard work – plan of work for the coming year submitted to the RSS.
  • Thanks to Christy Gibbons for cutting grass
  •  Bernie Coyne and Geraldine McNally for their work in the centre, cemetery, and planting flowers.
  • Cemetery Committee
  • Michael O’ Grady & Eileen O’Malley for their help during the year
  • Thanks to Egbert Polski who manages our website

  • Thanks to Christy Hyland for his support to install the traffic calming lights on both approaches to the Killeen Church / centre.  GK asked why the lights only flash red with no speed limit displayed. The speed limit may need to be lowered in the future.  The wild Atlantic Way sign is obstructing the red lights.  P McN spoke to Paddy Cummins & Padraic Philbin of Mayo County Council about it.  Robert Coyne then contacted PMcN to say staff will relocate the sign next week.
  • Our fundraiser in August 2019 raised €6600 after expenses.
  • Thanks to Michael Ring and Department of Rural and Community Development for €3500.  Funding was part of the Community Enhancement Programme (CEP) administered by the Mayo County Council.  As new extension hasn’t started the funding was used to purchase the following items for the Community Centre: New Burco Boiler & Microwave for Kitchen. 3 new handdryers for the toilets, crockery, glassware, tea flasks, teapots, mat, mop and bucket, filing cabinet & laminator. Funding had to be used by end of November 2019.

6. General Items/Maintenance of the Centre
  • Fire fighting equipment tested and certified on 28/11/19 €180 - Killeen Childcare Ltd. paid half of this fee.
  • Lease of building to Killeen Childcare Ltd. Valid until March 2022
  • Defibrilator relocated outside the community centre in a heated box.  Jimmy Corrigan did refresher training in use of defibrillator with those on the Emergency Contact List.  He also did a First Aid Responders course in November with 10 local peopl . This training was part funded by a grant to the Killeen Community Council from the MSLETB (Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education Training Board)
  • Other classes ran in the centre in Nov/Dec 2019 was Tin whistle for beginners & improvers & Autism & Challenging Behaviour (also funded by MSLETB).  More funding applied for for courses in 2020.
  • Leaks & maintenance after the storm damage last year all repaired.  Michael McNally praised for his great work.

  • We had applied for funding under the Small Capital Funds Scheme but were unsuccessful this time but we can reapply next year if scheme is still in place.

  • The Community Council organised a Mayo Day/Big Hello event in May and a Bike Week Event in June - funding was provided from the Mayo County Council. We may organise again next year.

  • .Annual Litter pick last april was a success.  More families turned out to help which was good to see.  Note that regular beach cleans in conjunction with the Clean Coast scheme are organised throughout the year in the area.   We are covered with An Taisce insurance for a limited time- starting in April.  New signs were purchased to notify the community of the litter pick.

Update re Extension at the Community Centre

  • Michael Ring Department of Rural & Community Development announced funding of €56 k for the extension under the Towns & Villages Renewal Scheme.  At the moment contracts haven’t yet been signed between his department and the Mayo County Council to progress.

James Langan has been employed as our consulting engineer for this project.  Tender packages ready but we cannot do anything until we hear back from the Mayo County Council.  James Langans fee is €3400 being paid in installments.  His report about the septic tank for the building was very helpful for the planning process.

We had submitted a LEADER funding application for this also but had to withdraw it when the other funding was announced.
