History of Killeen Community Council
Killeen Community Council was formed in 1976, originally called Killeen Holy Family Community Council, and adopted a constitution based on the principles of Muintir na Tíre. Killeen Community Council purchased Killeen Community Centre in 1992 and formed a company limited by guarantee as the best legal structure for owning community property. The community centre at Killeen is the only property owned by Killeen Community Council and it is owned on behalf of the people of Killeen. The centre is a major focal point in our somewhat scattered and remote area. Local people are very proud of the centre, as it was their massive fundraising efforts that enabled community ownership.
