Eire Sign
Eire sign in Devlin South.
This is not one of the series of Eire signs constructed by the Office of Public Works (OPW) during the second world war. While the OPW signs have a number with them which was useful for aerial navigation (in a way the GPS of its time) this one is without a number. The book "Julie McNally-McDermott (Ed.): School With A View - Killadoon National School (2010)" reports that this Eire sign was constructed in 1942-43 by the Local Defence Force (LDF).
